Holbrook, NY, February 4, 2026 – Long Island is about to welcome its eighth Whole Foods Market, with a brand new 43,000-square-foot store slated to open in Holbrook on March 5, 2026.
Located in the Shops at SunVet at 5801 Sunrise Hwy, it’s a calculated blend of global brand power and hyper-local ambition, aiming to fuse Whole Foods‘ (founded in 1980, the world’s leading natural and organic foods retailer, and part of Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores) renowned organic standards with distinct Long Island flair.
The announcement boasts that the Holbrook store’s decor takes cues from Long Island’s “unique blend of history, arts and coastal lifestyle,” a design choice clearly meant to resonate with the community.
Perhaps more significantly, the product assortment will feature over 900 local items from more than 215 suppliers across the Northeast, curated by John Lawson, Whole Foods Market’s Forager for Local & Emerging Brands. It’s an impressive number, but in an era where “local” can sometimes feel like a marketing buzzword, will these suppliers truly shine amidst the corporate giant?
Here’s a snapshot of what Holbrook can expect from its new Whole Foods Market:
- Prepared Foods: A sprawling department offering hot food and salad bars with rotating seasonal menus, fresh pizza, gourmet sandwiches from Market Sandwich, and sushi rolled daily by Genji. Convenience, but at a premium, one might expect.
- Fresh Produce & Floral: Certified organic, conventional, and “Sourced for Good” options. All items adhere to their Pollinator Health Policy, aiming to reduce chemical pesticides. Local highlights include packaged herbs from Goodness Gardens, Starling Purple Sweet Potato from Row 7 Seed Co., and SnapDragon apples from Hudson River Fruit.
- Specialty Department: A dedicated space for artisan cheeses, overseen by trained cheesemongers (including a Certified Cheese Professional), ready to craft custom boards. Local offerings feature fresh mozzarella from Lioni Latticini, Inc., specialty chocolate from Fine and Raw Chocolate, and pesto from Gotham Greens.
- Curated Grocery: Exclusive brand favorites alongside products from local suppliers like Backyard Brine, The Hamptons Honey Company, Black Seed Bagels, and Loopini Protein Pizza.
- Seafood Counter: Expert fishmonger service, sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed selections, and local options from Twin Light Smokehouse (smoked fish/spreads), Ducktrap (smoked salmon), and West Robins Oyster Company (oysters).
- Full-Service Meat Counter: Animal-welfare certified selections, expert butchers, in-house fresh sausage, and marinated meats. Animals must be raised without antibiotics. Local options include bacon from Wellshire, chicken sausage from Bilinski’s, and pork sausage from Brooklyn Cured.
- Beer & Cider: An extensive selection of 290 craft beers and ciders, with 85 local to the Northeast, featuring brands like Money IPA from Barrier Brewing Co., Wolf Hound Nitro Irish Stout from Flagship Brewing Co., and Dry Rose Cider from Wolffer Estate.
- Bakery Department: Daily baked bread, classic favorites like the Berry Chantilly Cake, and a variety of special diet items. Local offerings include cheesecake from Junior’s, mini muffins from Abe’s, and breads from Balthazar Bakery.
- Wellness & Beauty: A wide array of body care, beauty, lifestyle, and supplement products, all meeting Whole Foods’ strict body care standards.
Opening morning promises free samples from NAVAD Bakers and Sail Away Coffee Co. The first 300 customers will also snag a limited-edition tote bag and a “Secret Saver” coupon, potentially saving up to $100.
Beyond the grand opening fanfare, Whole Foods Market is also making local commitments, providing food donations to We All We Got, Inc., and monetary donations to Pronto of Long Island and Branches Long Island. This move aims to prevent food waste and support local communities, a tangible effort beyond just stocking shelves.
Of course, all products adhere to Whole Foods Market’s famously rigorous quality standards, prohibiting hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and hundreds of other ingredients.
For Prime members, the store offers year-round benefits, including weekly discounts and an additional 10% off hundreds of sale items, alongside convenient payment via the Whole Foods Market or Amazon app, Amazon Returns, and soon, Grocery Pickup.
With so much on offer, Holbrook is certainly getting a comprehensive, and meticulously curated, grocery experience. The question now is whether this blend of global reach and local focus will truly hit the mark for Long Island consumers.
